Customer Challenge

For this homeowner in Holbeach, Lincolnshire, electricity usage was higher than average because she runs a dog grooming business from the property.

With electricity prices continuing to rise, she wanted to explore renewable energy as a way of reducing her reliance on the grid and making better use of the energy being generated at home.

Because the business operates from the property, reducing daytime electricity costs was particularly important. Rather than simply installing solar panels, we looked at how the whole system could be designed to maximise the amount of renewable energy the customer could generate, store and use herself.

The GLANtech Solar Solution

After assessing the property and discussing the customer’s energy requirements, we designed a system tailored around her usage.

The installation included 8 × 490W LONGi all-black dual-glass solar panels, providing a 3.92kW solar PV system, combined with a 5kW Fox ESS hybrid inverter and 12kWh Fox ESS EP12 battery storage.

The battery allows surplus solar energy generated during the day to be stored rather than being exported to the grid. This stored energy can then be used when the solar panels aren’t producing enough electricity, helping the customer make greater use of her own renewable energy.

We also installed a Solar iBoost, allowing excess solar generation to be diverted to the property’s hot water system.

This means that when the solar panels are producing more electricity than the home and battery require, the surplus can be used to heat the hot water rather than simply being exported.

The result is a complete energy solution designed to maximise self-consumption and make the most of the electricity generated by the solar panels.

The Outcome

The new system gives the homeowner greater control over the electricity being used by both her home and dog grooming business.

By generating renewable electricity during the day, storing surplus energy in the 12kWh Fox ESS battery and diverting additional generation to hot water through the Solar iBoost, more of the energy produced on the property can be used rather than purchased from the grid.

For a property with a home-based business and higher electricity consumption, this approach provides a practical way to reduce reliance on grid electricity while making better use of renewable energy.

The customer was delighted with the finished installation and has since left GLANtech Solar a 5-star Google review, providing valuable feedback on her experience with the company.

A Solar System Designed Around the Customer

This Holbeach installation is a good example of why we don’t believe every home needs the same solar system.

The customer had a specific requirement: reducing the electricity costs associated with running a business from home.

By combining solar generation, substantial battery storage and solar-powered hot water, we were able to create a system designed around how the property use electricity.

At GLANtech Solar, we take the time to understand how each customer uses energy before recommending a system. Our aim is to install the equipment that genuinely benefits the customer, rather than simply selling the largest system or a particular product.
