Customer Challenge
This Dereham homeowner was a high electricity user, consuming more than 5,000kWh of electricity each year. With an existing electric vehicle and EV charger at the property, electricity demand was already significant, and the customers were keen to find a way to reduce their annual energy bills.
They were particularly interested in combining solar generation with battery storage, allowing them to make better use of the electricity their panels produced during the day while also taking advantage of cheaper off-peak electricity rates for their EV and home energy requirements.
The aim was simple: generate more of their own electricity, reduce reliance on the grid and take greater control of their future energy costs.
The GLANtech Solar Solution
After looking at the property’s energy consumption and discussing the customers’ requirements, GLANtech Solar designed a system around their high annual electricity usage and existing EV charging requirements.
We installed 16 dual-glass solar panels, providing a substantial solar PV system designed to generate approximately 7,000kWh of electricity per year.
The panels are connected to an 8kW hybrid inverter, alongside a Fox ESS EP12 battery storage system.
The battery is particularly valuable for this property. Instead of relying solely on solar generation at the time it is produced, surplus energy can be stored and used later when household demand increases.
It also gives the customers greater flexibility to make use of off-peak electricity rates, charging the battery when electricity is cheaper and using that stored energy when required.
With an EV already at the property, this combination of solar, battery storage and intelligent energy management provides a much more complete solution than solar panels alone.
Expected Results
Based on the system design and expected generation, the installation is forecast to produce around 7,000kWh of renewable electricity each year.
The customers are expected to save approximately £1,600 per year, while significantly reducing the amount of electricity they need to purchase from the grid.
The system also provides an important benefit for EV owners. Solar generation can be used to power the home and charge the vehicle, while battery storage provides additional flexibility to shift energy usage away from higher-cost periods.
And the early results are already impressive…
The installation was completed on 12 August 2026, and despite only being operational for a short period, the customers have already been surprised by how well the system is performing.
The system is already exceeding their expectations, giving them confidence that their investment will deliver the energy savings and independence they were looking for.
A System Designed Around High Energy Usage
This Dereham installation demonstrates why understanding a customer’s actual electricity usage is so important when designing a solar and battery system.
With annual consumption exceeding 5,000kWh and an EV already forming part of the household’s energy demand, a smaller solar-only system would not have provided the same level of energy independence.
By combining a substantial solar array with 8kW of inverter capacity and Fox ESS EP12 battery storage, the system has been designed to generate, store and use significantly more renewable energy throughout the year.
The result is a home that is better equipped to manage its energy consumption today, while also being better prepared for future changes in electricity prices and household energy demand.
