This homeowner already had an existing solar panel system that was generating plenty of renewable electricity throughout the day. However, much of that energy was being exported back to the grid because there wasn’t enough daytime electricity demand within the property.
Although they were receiving payments for exported electricity, the export tariff offered limited financial return compared to the cost of buying electricity back later in the evening. The customer wanted to make better use of the energy they were already producing by storing it for when it was needed most.
They were also keen to take advantage of cheaper off-peak electricity tariffs during the winter months, allowing the battery to charge overnight when solar generation is lower.

Rather than replacing the existing solar PV system, we upgraded it with a Fox ESS Hybrid Inverter and a Fox ESS EP12 Battery Storage System, transforming the way the household manages its energy.
The new battery automatically stores excess solar generation during the day instead of exporting it to the grid. Once the sun goes down, the stored electricity is used to power the home, reducing the need to purchase electricity at peak-rate prices.
The hybrid inverter also enables the customer to charge the battery using low cost off-peak electricity when required, ensuring the home continues to benefit from reduced energy costs throughout the year.
